Finding the Balance in your Life

There is a lot of talk about Self Care, especially being in the field that I am in. Working for a Spa, massage studio, or wellness center this is the basis of our passion. We are creators of wellness. Our goal is to support and nurture our fellow neighbors, friends, coworkers, humanity. We live in a country and generation where everything is at fingertips touch- our senses are overloaded with information- which the majority of us can handle on a daily basis. But there comes a time when we need to remember to Breathe.

I encourage you to find time, schedule it in your planner, make sure the family is aware that you are in need of some rejuvination and centering. They will support you, they need to support you. In order for you to live your life the fullest and be the most present, take that time. Offer a swap with your spouse, on a week night (dont forget to nuture your relationship too) or weekend to take an hour or a few hours of therapy. What ever that looks like for you- a Spa Day, Shopping, Girls night out, Hiking, Excersizing, Education (one class), Arts/Crafts, Book Club- just spend time with your self. Reconnect with your passions.

I was chatting with a friend about summer days, warmer weather, longer nights, and all the fun stuff that Summer holds for us each year. I was telling her how I LOVE to attend the Arts Festivals, browsing all the eclectic and amazing art found alike. My first experience with an Arts Fest was eye opening and quite charming, I found artists that I loved and others that couldn't even make me think 'HMMM...". Anyway, I found this artist Ben Behunin creator of Wild Rooster Artworks; he had a great "Mud Pie" saying that fit the occasion!

"Just because no one understands you, DOESN'T make you an Artist"

That phrase will forever hold the first experience I had as I walked the displays of the Arts Fest that year. I have since, enjoyed walking the displays of the locals and out of state-rs who proudly showcase their Art. I have become a Collector of this Ben Behunin's Artwork- it's quite "funny" artwork. I enjoy displaying it in my home- and sharing my stories with those who ask. :)

Hauls... Taylor Made Minerals, MAC, Ben Nye, LIME CRIME

I have been building my mineral/pigment collection. I Have found several places that I like to buy from-
Makeup Geek- Taylor Made Minerals- Makeup Haven- Lime Crime- Coastal Scents

(PIC BELOW: White gel liner as Base, Princess Caraboo LC, green off the 88 color palette)

Here are some pictures that I did using my NEW colors. I haven't taken pictures of every look I try or wear, but I captured a few. I also swatched the colors- both wet and dry. I have been impressed with most of them, some come out with good pigmentation others haven't. Most of these that I purchased I didn't spend more than $7.00, there are a few that were more, and cheapest were $1.50 (samples), average was about 4-5$.

Full size (other than MAC or Ben Nye those were samples at the average price in the same size jar as "Full size") minerals/pigments came in a 5 gram jar with about 1/4 tsp to 1.5 tsp (depending on seller) samples were in baggies or mini 1 gram jars.

My Makeup Room Inspiration

I will one day Have my very OWN makeup studio in my home. I love being able to create beautiful faces- with in that Studio I also plan to have my Massage table and equipment for facials and other treatments. so after a little browsing here are a few inspirations that I'd LOVE to create my very own space!

{I'm sure you recognize this photo from my previous post- :D }

What I LOVE about this photo- is the warm walls and the clean line furniture, yet there are some timeless and traditional pieces that make the room cozy. The simpleness of it all appeals to me- BUT I would add some fun accents- from this photo below!
I really like the animal print on the coffee/ottoman, I would splash that print around the room- subtly. Contemporary Pics would be great- but not these tones- more earthy tones with splashes of color in them. It will be great!

I hope to have my room with in the year- I am very excited! ;)

I found this quiz "My Personal Style" from another blogger (How about Orange) and thought I would take it! I do decorate 4 days out of the week for RC Willey, and sometimes I have to decorate things I don't really like. But some styles are growing on me- others I still stay far far away from. :)

I took it twice cause I didn't feel like It was 100% right about me. With my first results it said I was 100% Wine Country...which I do really enjoy- but not 100% of me likes that. I took it again- they showed a different selection of pictures and I felt this one was a little more accurate. 50% Wine Country, 25% Arts and crafts, and 25% Modern Elegance. This image is beautiful. The high contrast in color, and the drops of water on the leaves reminds me of the freshness that is felt right after the rain. :) Fall is my Favorite time of year, and this color of leaf is found all over during a 2-3 week period before they tumble to the ground and lose their vibrant splash.

This would be stunning as a big canvas print 40"x60"- natural but sleek.

Valentines Look with Bare Minerals Holiday Set

(Sarah- this is for you!!! The RED will help POP your eye color (^:)

In this post I am going to show you a look for Valentines Day- it's a smokey look. (I hope I explain it well enough- I have yet to try a video tutorial- maybe I will try it soon- we will see!) For those who aren't used to wearing or don't like wearing it dark you can improvise using your favorite light brown shadow. :) This can be worn day or night- which ever you prefer.

I started using an eye base all over the eye- lash to brow, blending lightly with your finger for an even layer. Using a small shadow brush- you will take the Bare Minerals in "Tiramisu" on your on the inner first 1/3 of your eye lid, lightly pat the color only to the crease- don't go past. (With the same small brush- cleaned- you can brush the remainder of the tiramisu on a towel or tissue) Take the "Red Velvet Cake" and apply to the rest of the lid- lightly pat to the crease- don't go above crease with this color either. :) Using and Angled brush (one that you blend liner with) and take the "Chocolate Fondue" and place the brush at the outer corner of the eye and pull the color into the crease. Blend all the way over to the inner corner ( the line should be smaller as you pull the color in ) Take a clean brush blend the dark color into the red- be careful not to blend the color out- just make the harsh line not visible. (see below with the blending from DK to Red) Take a different small shadow brush (or clean the other one again) and take the "Dulce De Leche" (highlighter) and blend it from brow to DK color. (Blend any Harsh lines you see and want to look smooth from color to color) I then used my felt tip LINER in BLK and lined my eyes starting half way and pulled it out past the outer corner of my eye. If you don't like liquid liner then use what ever you are comfortable with.

I took the angled brush and took a little more "Chocolate Fondue" and pulled it down from the outer corner half way under the eye. I applied "Red Velvet Cake" the rest of the way to the inner corner with small brush.

I filled in my brows- you don't have to if you don't want- mine are just really light against my darker hair.

I used Jane Iredale Mineral Foundation in "Satin" all over and used a lip color that I mixed my self. I used a blush that compares to NARS "orgasm" in color- but use what you have that you like.

Taylor Made Minerals

Hey Guys-

I am thoroughly enjoying building my makeup collection with a variety of colors and shades-I recently purchased some mineral pigments from Taylor Made Minerals. ( there is a link under "check these out" to the right in the side bar) They are reasonably priced for "sample" size jars 5 grams- $5.00 a jar. They come full and highly pigmented. I posted pics of what I purchased, swatches and a look I did with 2 of the colors. :) My camera isn't the best, I apologize for the 'look'.

Have you ever been into a hobby and end up one day knee deep in everything and anything you can possibly find about that subject? I had that happen to me this past week. Yes- I found my self engrossed in video tutorials on YouTube about... Makeup.

Now, as I watched these fascinating short clips, I realized there is an abundance of creativity that can inspire anyone who watches! I can't even begin to count the obsessed hours I have spent trying to get my "Fix" for makeup video tutorials. There are many things that are used for inspiration for the tutorials. Comic book Hero's, Contemporary Art, Holiday's, Celebrity's, Old Hollywood, Time periods, How to's, 101's, Skin care regimen, Horoscopes- anything you see that inspires you- make you own re creation using makeup!

Lately, I have had the desire to build my makeup kit so I can take it on location with me, as well as having just the right shade for that perfect look. There are many colors out there in the world, and since I am going to take from what I see as inspiration, I need the palette to pull from. Right now I have basics, browns, pinks, creams, for your everyday looks and a few colors. I am learning that the intensity is oh so important if you want drama, pop and focus on your eyes. Not all my colors are great quality- (but til I can get what I need I can make do. (: ) I have added a few links to my websites for you to check out, they are bright color related and ones that have given an inspirational look to try and help expand your makeup creativity.

What a day it has been! A day for the books to remember, and for a hopeful future. :) President Obama's speech was eloquent ( 'bout time ) and filled with passion, hope, positive challenges and plans for the days ahead. Good luck to him in all that he has just taken on. I do not follow politics unlike many of you- I rarely get involved in political topics with anyone. As an American citizen I should understand more- but this post is merely the impressions and thoughts of what was said today.

Listening and watching him speak after he was sworn in, gave me the chills. The good kind. There were great things he said- and to name just a few- that lay as an impression on my mind.

".....the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."*

What a powerful statement- "remaking America"- we will and it starts with each one of us. With the rise of consumer prices and the fall of job loss we do need re evaluate ourselves-what we spend, what we save, what we do in the next few years to come.

"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — ......they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."*

The desire to change is strong and when it's strength is joined with will and courage it's bound to make strides and allow for positive change to happen.

I'm hopeful, excited, understanding, grateful, appreciative, and empowered for a better tomorrow. Change for a "Yes we Can" government and attitude for our fellow man.

Skin Care is just as improtant as Health Care

We hear all the time how we need to take care of our bodies- inside and out. Keeping it fit, watching what we eat, what we drink, and even the air we breath. (smog- yuck!) So with this being the new year and several of you have resolutions to keep up with here is something to ad to your list. Having a skin care regimen can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. But in my few years of offering treatments- most prefer a simple skin care routine. (especially the men!)

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your skin care regimen. FIRST is your SKIN TYPE. Just because a cleanser is great for your best girlfriend doesn't mean its great for your- and visa versa. Best friends don't have same skin types- even siblings are very different. Think of it as a 'Personality'- they very from person to person.

SECOND-INGREDIENTS. They are important! There are many labels that "claim" to have to most moisturizing- most aromatic- but be careful, many add alcohol to their products that dry your skin out even faster! Fragrance is the leading ingredient for irritation and skin reactions. Products with a fake fruity smell or offer "aromatherapy" in your OTC and trendy fragrance shops are most likely going to have artificial fragrance added into the product. They phrase you are what you eat- your skin does absorb the products you put on it- so make sure that it's the most beneficial. (I'm not saying spend hundreds of dollars on a new skin care and rid your selves of the stuff you have- just be careful- you may end up spending more in other ways.)

THIRD-SAMPLES anyone? When looking into new products or just starting out see if there are any samples available or ask what the return policy is for opened products. Over the years I have worked with makeup and skin care most places will agree to a refund or an exchange with in 30 days of use (if they don't offer samples) no matter how much product you have used. They understand that products react differently on different skin types. Try a patch test to see how your skin reacts- or go have a facial with some new products you have been dying to try.

FOURTH- SKIN ANALYSIS. If you have had a facial, you might know what I am talking about. When going to the spa or salon you meet with your regular therapist or a new one and each time; they ask questions about your skin. How does it feel? Are you undergoing any stress? Any changes since you have been in last or in the past few months? What are your concerns? How is your diet? What type of work environment do you work in? for men What is their shaving system? and women Are you on your menstrual cycle? ect. Your skin does change- it's affected by everything. Weather, hormones, stress levels, environment, genetics, emotions- inner and outer-all apply. Its good to have it analyzed 2 to 4 times a year. Depending on your climate and season changes and any other big changes happening in your life. It doesn't hurt to have your skin analyzed and enjoy some relaxation at the same time. :)

Few Months Late...

I was going to post this back in October- or at least November, but time got away from me. This was my Halloween outfit for work- I don't dress up too much. I would love to, but just haven't ever made enough effort to. I usually do something different with my makeup, that's about it. This past Halloween I added spider webs with black liquid liner to go with my headband. I tried to use soft pencil, it just smudged right off. With my naturally oily skin, it would have been impossible to keep it looking good with out using a liquid liner. Next year if you think about doing a spider web try liquid liner, I used Merle Norman's Black liner with a felt tip. :)

NARS eye shadow

Early in December I did this look, and thought it was fun. I used my NARS black eyeshadow. I have been really nervous to use it, for fear of looking too WACKED out! I thought I turned out great, I have been doing more looks with it now and not so afraid so use it. :) In this pic it looks kinda green- wierd.

Sorry the pic is sorta yellow- camera phones aren't always the best quality. it's usually what I have last minute so I take it.

I did this look back in early December- I believe on my anniversary weekend. :) I love having plenty of time to get ready- I normally don't do much for work. Occasionally I will get up with extra time- but mostly its just very simple and basic. Little mascara and little bit of MAC paint pot in Bare Study- its my FAVE!! :)

Here is what I used-

I can't remember what foundation I have on- I believe it's by Mineral Mine in fair or something. I like the coverage when I first put it on but after my face would start to get oily the foundation would look splotchy between my brows. I hate that! So, you can't really see what I did to my lips or cheeks so I left those out.

- MAC pot in BARE STUDY for my all over base (thin layer all over)
-MERLE NORMAN in CASHEW for lid from lash to below brow bone

New Year Wishes!

Happy Be-lated New Years! The Holidays were super busy for me this year- I didn't even get to enjoy them! I was working so much that it came to Christmas Eve and we didn't have the tree up at all! Horrible to admit I know. Most people wouldn't even think about admitting to that kind of unthinkable description of a Christmas! I did how ever have all my Christmas shopping before the holiday was in full swing- thank goodness for that! I don't know what sad pathetic morning that would have been like if I hadn't- I hate to even think about it!

I read an article today about the New Year resolutions and how every year we all make them and every year most of us don't keep them. (for those who do- this post is not for you) She decided she was going to have a New Year Wish List- and I thought that was a fantastic idea! Throw all my resolutions to the wind and start the year off right with wishes, so I am going to do just that.

I wish that the busier I got I had a second me to clean my house and then relax for the evening or have the second me work my job everyday. I wish that Wendy's wasn't so "easy" and that my stomach didn't growl every time I thought about the spicy chicken sand which with hot fries and an ice cold Dr Pepper. I wish that marriage wasn't so hard and that the damn Cinderella story was really how it happened. (well- the happily ever after part- not the wicked step family thing) I wish that I could think of awesome topics and creative ways to write a blog like many of my fellow bloggers do- you guys are great I love reading all about the things you love! I wish that Christmas didn't come so fast or leave even faster and that the stores wouldn't ruin Christmas music by Dec 23rd. I wish that not only the holiday pounds but the past few years pounds would melt away as I type my entries for my blog. {I might post more if that actually happened :^)!}

I hope that as you read some of my wish list you will get ideas too- and don't stress about the new year, it always gets us anyway- if not this year it will the next.

I know I said NO to New Years Resolutions- but I do have one. To take one day at a time and be Grateful for it. I think that if I can at least to that I feel that somehow every other thing I would have wanted to resolute about might come a bit easier. :) I love you all! Look forward to hearing more from me this year! I love hearing from you-

Lash Extensions

Hey guys-

I am posting some pictures of some recent clients that have had individual lash extensions done by me. :) I really have liked these over the clumps you get at the store- they last up to 6 weeks with proper care and with regular fills they last longer. I use medical grade glue- NO FORMALDEHYDE- so the glue doesn't cause irritation or problems. Each lash is synthetic and is put on individually, it makes for a great polished look! The BEST thing about these ones, after the glue thoroughly dries- you can use mascara (not waterproof) to blend them with out the worry of them pulling out or falling apart! They grow out with your natural lash, reason for the fills, it's as if they are your natural lash.

The lashes that you can get in the strips are great for single use, and I love them for that! They give and immediate (and QUICK) full, lush look; these ones are great for longer lashes, or to fix broken lashes. On to the pics!

This post is on the personal side of things- With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be grateful for. Right now it may not seem like it, with all the financial distraught, but I live in a blessed country. With Freedom that others fight for me to maintain, and more often than not I take for granted, I have a job, a roof over my head and a surplus of material things. I have more opportunities to be successful at life, my career and my relationships than most in today's world. I have a family who loves me, and a husband who works hard to make sure we have a good life. He is ambitious, motivated, successful, smart, my Friend, and best of all he loves me. He works hard for each of us here in the homeland- when we have our scary moments in life when we don't know what to do, he is there to make sure all is well. I am grateful for AL

L those who are here to protect us as a society so that we can carry on with our day to day lives and not have to worry about the horrible and sad things that happen all around us.

I am grateful for my friendships and my dearly loved ones, those that are near and afar. Your impact on my life has shaped me in the paths we walk together. I am who I am because of you, and for that I am truly grateful. My faith in a supreme being, my Father in Heaven, and the love he shows me everyday- Is beautiful in it's self. I believe that through the mere example of loving one another for who we each are and what we bring to this life is a lesson in life we all need to learn. Those that live their life and show their love for the savior in ALL they do, teach me. Thank you for that. I love you all, and thank you for being who you are.

Hey Guys!

Love the new style? I do! :) It's funky- and fresh, just like me! he he he. Kim at MHD did the cut and color- fabulous eh? I had her do it the night of the TSO concert I went to with my hubby this last week. Have you heard their music? Christmas with Rock and Roll, I heard their song "Christmas eve Sarajevo" in NYC on my Honeymoon and fell in love with them! They are 10x's the performance on stage- although I do love listening to the CD!! The best part was, WE had 4th row seats!! I can't believe how close we were! The pictures I have are from my phone so the resolution isn't the greatest, but I tried to capture the moment. For me I know how amazing they were- hope you can see too! :)

Hey guys-

I have been MIA from blogging because I am trying to get my foot in the door with a few salon's and spa's in the area for work. It's been a huge process- deciding to either go commission or booth rent. Both have their advantages and their disadvantages, for me it's been weighing them both as well as finding a place that I feel has the best atmosphere for my clients.

My clients need a place that they feel they can come and relax, wind down from the every day stress. Even more so when it comes to our struggles these day's. They need to feel welcome in the salon/spa that I work for and know that they will be taken care of when they come. Facials and pedicures are in a sense a "luxury" item- but my work is more than those two treatments alone. Taking care of your skin is more important today than it was 10 years ago. I am an educator on how to resolve issues concerning your skin. That's what I have been trained to do and I love it!

I finally decided to go with Moore Hair Design, doing booth rent. It's a PT gig for now, I need to build my clientele base first, it's my desire to eventually do this with out the need of a hourly wage. ( www.moorehairdesign.com ) She has a private room that I use for all my treatments, it's a cute little place. First a home, she converted the main level into a salon and uses the up stairs rooms as Esthetic's rooms, there's two of us who rent both. She has 7-8 stylists that work for her on the main floor, there are about 4-6 at a time there. My most favorite part, If I don't want to work one day- I don't have to be there. ( although if I'm not there with clients I don't make any money- that's the down side )

I use Dermalogica and Rhonda Allison for my facials and skin care treatments. She sells Dermalogica out of the salon for our clients and I brought in Rhonda Allison for my personal use, they carry a Chemical peel line that is fantastic! I have featured both product lines on here with my favorite pics'. I will be offering discounts and freebies for those who read these posts and schedule appointments with me. Some will be time sensitive and others will be for who ever reads them. They will be stated either way so there won't be any confusion. :) Thanks for reading!

Congrats to my Husband!

This morning Tommy had a visit with Murray Chief of Police and was extended a "conditional" job offer. ( he has to pass a drug, physical and psych test) We are truly excited and grateful for this opportunity. Tommy has been traveling to Ogden from Murray for his current position as a patrolman on Ogden's Police Department. (For those who don't know how far Ogden is from Murray- it's an hour drive in "good" traffic.) I want to congratulate him on his success- and his determination for moving forward with his career. He is still going to school to graduate with his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, and we can't wait for that day either! Thanks to all those who have helped support and encourage him to do what he loves. All the prayers are appreciated, and not gone with out gratitude in our hearts. Love to all- Al

Gel Nails by Melanie R

Today I passed my state exam for my Master Estheticians license- -GOOOO ME! Anyway- I decided to pamper my self with getting my nails done. :) I went to this sweet gal Melanie R. who does them out of a beauty supply store in Roy. She did a fantastic job with them I HAD to blog about it. Here is the photo of my nails- aren't they great!? She charges 25$ and has an awesome selection of color and decals. she is creative as well as precise. My smile lines are important to me- I am impressed with her work. Gel nails are much clearer and last longer than acrylic- these posted here are gel- Gel nails can take longer to process due to the cureing factor, but that in its self makes them last longer. :)

My hubby and I were out for dinner the other night and saw this huge bus! Check out how you have to get in it, crazy- huh? Too bad they were closed and we couldn't take a ride it would have been fun to cruz for a few minutes.

Do you know Regina Spektors music? You may have heard her song "The Call" from the Narnia sound track. I fell in love with that song when I saw the movie. I Looooooove OREO's

I love Oreo's! They are among my top favorite cookies to munch and have a glass of ice cold milk to wash it down with. Im not much of a dunker but I love to take a nice big gulp of milk after eating one or two. :) My other favorite cookie is the Pumpkin Chocolate chip- mmmm yummy! They always remind me of autumn weather, all year round. (I also wear them all year round!) LOL... What are your favorite cookies?

Paige Davis

Today at work I had the pleasure of meeting Paige Davis, spokes personality for RC Willey Home Furnishings and host on Trading Spaces reality TV series, she is as bubbly in her appearances as she is in person. (this photo wasn't staged- she actually popped in with the hand thing :)) She came to the Murray store to do a publicity meet and greet for the customers. Her book "Paige by Paige" are the chronicles about the years events with the show Trading Spaces. (the pic below actually has Ty Pennington on it- before Extreme Home makeover) Which made #4 best seller in the NY times back in 2003. She came back after a 3 year blip with TLC and is the host again. You go girl!

So a little about how I was able to meet her- I work in the Murray store for RC Willey, and I help with the floor staging. It's a physical job, but I have fun with the team I work with. We all get a long- its almost like a little family. Interior decorating wasn't what I started doing when I was hired on with RC Willey- but I have enjoyed the change of positions. I have learned a lot working in my department- but I have a long way to go in terms of designing. I took a class in HS about Interior Design but I never really got into it. My teacher wasn't the greatest- so my first real exposure to this field of work wasn't a positive one. Given the opportunity to learn from the people I work with has intrigued me to pursue some education in this career path. Not full time- but more like a hobby. :) So that's how I met Paige- working for RC Willey.

This picture is quite lovely- I imagine that I am sitting on the bench across from the beautiful caption-The sturctures in the back ground are both beautiful. The one on the right has aged yes- but it for that reason alone it captures the beauty of the past. Peach infused with pink floral, sits right in the middle adding a bit of a "natural" element- I love that. Iron work that is done with this scroll motif appeals to me, I would love a piece of iron work similar to this as my front door. And the main structure adds a touch of today- were still moving forward and improving our outside elements for others to enjoy.

My grandfather has an eye for beauty, always has. He loves capturing the outdoors- freezing a moment in time. He stages his home beautifully, looks as though a woman set up the whole place. This ability he does natually- he passed those traits down to his daughters and grandaughters. For that I am truely greatful.

Natural Beauty Defined

Beauty is defined as ethnic identity, female identity, personal identity. As well as what your role should look like in society and being who you are supposed to be. Natural beauty is variable- it's dependent on your culture; some say it's no makeup, that it's facial alterations to look like ancestors or animals for story telling, or to fill a role in society.

Although you can't stop aging- the media images in our society imply differently. Body modification can be taboo in some cultures. The body is seen as a gift or as sacred and should not be altered from what your parents or [god] gave you. Beauty is defined on how you feel when you look in the mirror or being comfortable in your own skin. It's a personal decision or out look, that can be influenced by society or culture.

As a Master Esthetician and Makeup Artist I see and hear all about what women and men want to do to improve the appearance of their skin. There are many non invasive treatments as well as many products to help with the skins overall look. They range from basic facials to intensive peels and camouflage makeup.

My definition of Beauty is what you see your self as when you achieve your goals and aspirations. I have personal belief in that. In those moments I realized who I was and saw the beauty with in. You can make the outer shell “look” like what you want, but it's what goes on inside that completes it.

When I have done a make over on someone who isn't excited or loves who they are- it doesn't matter what put on them; they still don't have the glow of someone who loves or likes who they are. It's amazing to me what I see in people as they feel better about them selves when they leave my hands. In this industry our hands our like gold- they do wonders for others- the human touch is the most healing of all remedies. I truly believe that.

Double Agent Quick Fixes

Autumn is my favorite time of year- bright colors reveal themselves, crisp mornings and evenings, Hoodie time! I don't know why, it's only been in the past few years that I really enjoy the fall weather. I wonder if it was a new start to each school year, my inner clock says it's time to start something again- hmmm....

I found these tips in the Sephora book, a new beauty bible. If you haven't picked one up I suggest you do for a mere $27.95. In here are some are tips I have grown up with and others are new to me- do you have any 'Double Agent Quick Fixes' ?

Toilet paper instead of blotting paper
A knife instead of a mirror to check your lipstick
Nail polish to prevent a run from spreading in your stockings
Tooth brush as an eyebrow groomer
Hair conditioner as shaveing cream
Matchbook cover as a nail file
Brow tint to cover grey hairs or as a root touch up in between visits to the colorist
Pressed or loose powder on roots of hair to absorb oil/grease
Hand lotion to fight frizzies
Cold tea bgs to depuff eyes
Olive oil on patches of ultradry skin

Ulta

I have heard and read from fellow beauty bloggers there LOVE for Ulta. Utah finally has one of our own! (Go us!) Not to mention a Sephora as well. :) I would have to shop at the Vegas Sephora if I wanted to try the products before I purchased them- now I only have to drive minutes compared to hours!

I made it to Ulta and checked it out- and I don't know why it took us so long to get one, it's fantastic! I made a few purchases that were killer deals. Utla collection had 1$ liners and 3$ shadows- so I picked up a couple. When I first did a swatch on the back of my hand the colors were really light so I did a second swatch to intesify the color. The kohl liners are gorgeous for fall! I did a look with some of the shadows using an eyebase, they look better on the lid than they did on the back of my hand. (I will post a pic later)

4 new shadows and 3 new liners- aren't they gorgeous (?!), the price was too!

The swatches were done 2x's- they are high metallic. Terracotta on top (orangish), Amythest bottom left, Gold leaf in middle, safari on right. Liners look similar in this photo- but they are different! L-R BlackBrown, Moss, and Copper.

Utla and Sehpora are opening another location each, in Sandy and Murray- they are both even closer than their origional locations. YEAH! Now all we need is a MAC store- not just a counter!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY P!NK!!!

One of my favorite artists-P!NK- Her music just gets ME excited! LOVE LOVE LOVE her new song "So What!" MMM baby! If I was single and broken up with my BF- this song would be my anthem- 'were all gonna get in a fight'!! lol- Anyway, LOVED her Blue out fit (superHOT) in the MTV VMA awards show this year 2008. She did perform her hit 'So what'- and it was Fantastic! It rocked the house- (Don't know why Brittany won so many awards- must of paid off somebody!!) out of all the performances. Best show, best vocal ( besides her back up chic), best outfit, Best everything! YOU go G!RL!

So here is my attempt to do P!NK's look- I did a "pink" eyeshadow look and a "rocker P!nk". I know I don't look anthing like her and this is just a first time shot, so check it out- I'm tryin more of her looks- I will post more later.

MY SUMMER VACATION by aleca

This summer I made it my goal to at least attend 1 arts festival that happens in Utah. My luck preceded me and I went to 2! Go me! Anyway I get tons of inspiration there and LOVE to see all the beautiful and creative works of art from all over. I took a few snap shots of some of my favorite things, a few that caught my eye or peaked my interest. There a some that were just plain weird, but that's the beauty of art. It's not for just one person but a whole bunch of people.

I know I have been a little long in between posts, work and life ...blah blah blah... you know the routine. As the summer winds to a close I hoped to share these few experiences that I thoroughly enjoyed. :) Hope you do too.

This stylish moose sits out side CHLOE LANE clothing store in Park City down main street. Fashionable and creative.

This was one of my interests. I was unable to get much information about the artist, but it's creativity is thought provoking.

This wall art is creative. I thought it was a great idea ( too bad I didn't come up with it first! :). They are words and thoughts that are inspiring crafted with images that re iterate what is being said.

These two cute girls let me take a picture of their faces. I loved the art work that they had. :)

My cute friend Bethany sent me some pics of her trying on some new eye colors. Way to go girl! I'm posting them to share with everyone, because I think she did a fantastic job! She normally wears neutrals but stepped out with some green and plum. check out her look... :) She has gorgeous features- her eyes are set perfect, and the liner she put around them makes them POP! Her cheeks are highlighted just enough to give a sweet peachy glow, and her lips are softly colored to accent the entire look. As seen in the photo to the right she used PLUM on the inner to mid eye and used the GREEN in the crease, with a HIGHLIGHT color on the brow bone. Bethany, I LOVE your hair how silky smooth it looks, and this over all look is a 10! Thanks for sending me the photo's- it's fun to see what you came up with. :)

So, Bethany and I were talking about being brave with color, and I showed a look using blue and green. I don't wear too much purple, so I thought I would give it a try. I posted a "before" pic of me, so you all can see what I look like with out doing my makeup...scary I know. :) So here is my color line up-

I LOVE Kat, she is an icon for beauty. I know she has tattoo's all over but she has a natural beauty that is enhanced by her artwork. :) Tattoo's are in some cases considered still 'taboo', but despite all of that; I find most of them attractive when done tastefully. Kat's work is beautiful, and her portraits are amazing! I were to get a tattoo, I would want her to do it! Not because she is "FAMOUS", but because she does great work. :) I am a fan of her show LA Ink, my husband and I watch it all the time! On one of her past episodes, where she is trying to break the record for the most tattoo's in a 24 hr period, it shows her makeup closet. I was amazed. I couldn't find a photo from the episode so I took it with my camera from the TV (you can tell it's a

TV photo! ) lol. In the simplest form possible I am super jealous of her closet! For one, it's organized, AND there is TONZ of products. :) I am really excited to try her color pallettes, Sephora was out when I went the last time. BUMMER, although I had already spent my limit. I was chatting with my Hubby about all this and he laughed at me about it, but agreed that in the end I will eventually have a closet like hers, only filled with my FAV products! Every girl who LOVES makeup and all things girlie needs a closet like this!

I went shopping to try some new products from MAC and Sephora. So far I have had tons of fun with the MAC paints I purchased and the new EYE LINERS from Sephora. Here is a photo of the MAC green paint I used with L'Oreal HIP Shadow Duo in Showey 224. I was really nervous using the blues, but I think they turned out fantastic!

Shoes shoes shoes... whats your favorite?

So I did a blog about Shoes and if there was such a number to say "you have too many shoes!". (my husband thinks so, but he doesn't have a specific number, just when the shoe basket starts to over flow he's thinking that) Anywho, I wasn't able to post some pictures of the shoes I liked and I'm really new to this whole thing so I got a little ahead of my self and was rambling more than providing info on the shoe party thing. :)

Ok, here is a little history. MY sister in law Sara and her best buddy Sami had a shoe party of their own 2 yrs ago. They thought it was the coolest idea ever! "Shoe shopping from my very own house...pretty awesome!" So they both worked full time and wanted to do a little something on the side, so they started having shoe parties. (ht tp://www.4theloveofshoes.com/) They wanted to do maybe 3-4 parties a week to come out a head and make it worth while. Well.... with in 3 mo of them advertising and doing shows they were booked 6 days a week doing 7 parties 2-3 months in advance! Theses days they are booking 6 months out, with a long cancellation list. ( book a date in 6 mo and get on the cancellation list for an earlier date.) What a fantastic business boom!

Hosting a party is pretty easy and laid back. It's more a mingle than a presentation. We show up, set up our shoe display, you browse and decide what you would like to try on, we head out to the trailer we tow and bring in your sizes. :) You then purchase right there the ones you LOVE and have to take home. ( which usually is more than 1 pair ) :)

Our shoes are more conservative and classic with a little flare. The inventory changes by the week, they are always getting in new styles and colors. Some times they only get 1 shipment of a certain shoe and it's gone and they can't reorder more from the wholesaler or manufacture. They just got back from the WSA Shoe Convention where they picked out the latest styles for the Fall Collection for this year. ( I will be posting photo's and info about WSA later) I have seen some of the shoes they are coming out with and they are pretty HOT. :) So look forward to some fun boots and heels with a mix of flats that come in all shapes and sizes.

Style Statement

Hey Y'all,

I posted my Style Statement as my Blog Origin. I feel that in order to start freeing your self expression it starts in small doses. It helps you as my readers know a little more about me and why I feel or do certin things in life.

On Carrie and Danielle web sight they posted a Daily Question; the question was "If you believed you were enough what would you do differently?" ( if you were sufficiently sufficient, nothing to prove, no one to impress and brimming with wholeness) (http://www.carrieanddanielle.com/)

Here was my reply: If I had nothing to prove and felt sufficiently sufficient I would take bolder risks. State my piece of mind LOVE who I genuinely am. (although I have made some progress.) I would embrace the feeling that being alone and having nothing to do is okay, its my time to contemplate. I would step out and make my self known and be a successful Professional Makeup Artist with NO INHIBITIONS and who has a true desire to make other FEEL and look beautiful. Because they are.

There is nothing more liberating than feeling what you truly feel and expressing it. This book "Style Statement" is such an eye opening book, and I needed it. I was able to remember and feel what I truly wanted in life, what made me so mad and what filled me with passion. It asks thought provoking questions only you knew the answer to. You were only fooling your self by not being honest and when you were being true to yourself the feelings and emotions are incredible! I could think about all these things I loved with a passion and hated with a passion and all the stuff in between. It filled me with such emotion and desire, I long for that continual feeling it's so energetic and such a rush!

So I ask you my friends and family: What would you do differently if you were enough?

Pioneer Day July 24th

As we remember our ancestry today and celebrate the past, I was reflecting on how hard it must have been for those who trekked all the way across (from different countries even) to settle in the Utah valley. I would like to imagine that they were strong in physic and they had to be strong in spirit. They took chances, they risked their lives in hopes of a better place. They wanted to grow and be apart of something that is good, something that is beautiful. I don't do tons of ancestral digging, but when I hear stories of those who forged the path for our generations, I am overcome with gratitude. I love the perseverance and desire for a united community who loved god with all their heart, might, mind and strength.

My last name comes from Ireland, I often wonder how it traveled so far and who had the strength to bring it to America. Deep inside I feel the desire and yearning for something more, and a better way of life, I wonder if my ancestors felt that. I think of my last name and want to know who they were, who had the courage to risk all of what they believed in. I feel that strength is passed on from generation to generation, my father always felt and believed in everything good. As did my grandfather, I have no doubt that he got the from his father and mother. So the yearning and desire we feel are stemmed from the past, and it makes us who we are today.

Hip Hip Hooray, lets hear it for those who have come before us and paved the way so we have an easier day and have much greater success!

Alrighty..

Mychelle Dermacuticles, I found them at a beauty convention about a year ago. I went Vegas with some fellow Estheticians and browsed the convention center for all the product stuff we could get our hands on! :) This was our first ever beauty show for any of us and it was a lot to take in! There were small businesses, large Corps, retailers, from anything beauty to anything kinda Spa. Tons of stuff, I want to go next year.. ! Anyway I came across this product line that is different from what I am used to using. I use Dermalogica and Glymed on occasion, so what caught my attention was the "pumpkin peel" and I LOVE the fall and all that good stuff so I was PSYCHeD! I bought a regular size and still have quite a bit left, but I checked out their web sight and they list all active ingredients and why they use them and what they are doing for the skin! (www.mychelleusa.com) For an learning esthetician that was like hitting the jack pot of info, here I was learning about these cool products and why these ingredients are good for the skin and what they are doing for it as well!

Mychelle Dermacuticles is known for their 'natural products', and how they differ from others by not using toxic chemicals, they are vegetarian free and vegan friendly, and supports tissue respiration. http://mychelleusa.com/whymychelle.aspx to check out why they are who they are.

The "Organic Pumpkin Pomegranate Peel 10%" (is a part of the professional line, which requires you to have a licence to purchase this product) but they do carry a "Incredible Pumpkin Peel" for retail, the concentration of active ingredients are lower than the professional product. In the IPP there are a few ingredients that give this at home peel great results. (Note: this product is great for Acne/Oily skin. http://mychelleusa.com/incrediblepumpkinpeel.aspx is where you can see a complete list of this peels ingredients active and all others.)

Pumpkin Fruit: Antioxidant, infuses the skin with phytochemicals and fortifying compounds that strengthens cellular responses, accelerates exfoliation processes
Pumpkin Wine: Antioxidant, rich in phenols that repair weakened skin structures
Pumpkin Enzymes: Antioxidant, provides cellular rejuvenation through enzymatic exfoliation
Honey: Antibacterial, anti-fungal, acts as a humectant to increase skin hydration
Pineapple Fruit Extract: Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that fortifies and smoothes the skin, infuses various vitamins and minerals into the skin to improve cellular function and skin texture.

These were top on the list and among my favorite ingredients, I have tried this particular peel and feel it does a great maintaining job between visits to the spa. I love the professional product as well it gives a great kick start to your skin renewal program. But as always; consult with your therapist before jumping into lots of exfoliating treatments, if not done properly you can cause more harm than actually getting great results.

I think I am going to do a post on several of my favorite Mychelle products; and I will do some that will be good for other skin types as well. So check out the web sight, see what cool products they have and if any interest you. I know that they ship all over, but you might check out your local nutrition store they might have it. They now carry a cosmetic line...mineral; haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to the day I do!

Body Wraps: is there more than just water loss?

Hello!

Body wraps. What do you think of when that treatment is mentioned? Water loss, weight loss, skinny, sweaty, plastic wrap, dehydrated, when you take a drink you gain it all back, claustrophobic, expensive w/o great lasting results, ... I know the list can go on. But I want to let you in on a little secret...there is a body wrap that is a lasting weight loss wrap! YES! There a few of you who might know what I am talking about, and have had a treatment of this sort done before.. :) It's an excellent treatment, but there is work involved to "Maintaining" that weight loss and losing more.

M`lis Body Contour:
This particular treatment I have performed several times with successful inch loss all over on every client and I have received it my self and have personally lost 8 inches all over! I was very excited... an inch off each thigh, 2-3 off my mid, some off my arm. I remember feeling so great. I didn't sweat much, they kept me warm with a heat lamp and I was completely relaxed. I was wrapped tightly in saran wrap so if your claustrophobic I would really decide if you really wanted to go through with it. The saran helps keep the product on the skin for better penetration and it helps contour the body.

The way it works (www.mlis.com) is through your circulation and elimination systems, as they become impaired they don't flush the toxin out as well and that causes the build up of toxins at the cellular level. By using light pressure and the stimulation of the systems the toxins are removed through the Circulation and Lymphatic level.

Benefits: :) Re contouring the body, skin hydration, increase in blood circulation, cleansing of the body waste, smoothness of skin. You will want to wait 4-7 days in between each treatment, and if you are overweight doing this as a weight loss program you will want to have this treatment done every 5-10 lbs. It helps speed up the weight loss process by flushing the systems faster, and helping the skin tone as you lose the weight. Recommended to work out 4-5 times a week to help stimulate the lymph system to rid toxins immediately. There is a suggested detox program to help increase the results, it works well. But if detoxing isn't your thing, drink lots and lots of water to help flush it all out.
If you don't do the things to help maintain the inch loss you will see it all come back. I recommend this treatment for anyone who is looking for a quick fix for a wedding, a reunion or party. It helps your skin look and feel great, as well as helps you look your best when you need to feel it. Treatment time should take about 2-2.5 hrs, you are in the actual wrap for 45-60min. the rest id for measuring and re measuring, your next treatments won't be as long because there isn't as much prep needed.

Body Contouring Mineral(at home):

This treatment I haven't tried, so I am not sure how well the results are, but I would imagine similar. (www.bodycontouringmineral.com) You can buy the products on line and it gives you directions as well. It is similar to the M`lis Body Contour, but this one has you wrap your self in wraps similar to Ace Bandages. I am not sure if I would do it my self, I would rather have someone else who is experienced in doing it, to make sure I had good results. I know If I did it at home it's never as good as getting it done at the spa, or never turns out quite right, ends up all over the place cause I am such a mess! :)

You soak the wraps for 30 min in the hottest water you can stand and apply to the needed areas. It also advises you to put on sweats and wrap your self in a blanket to act like a sauna and stay in there for 60-90 minutes. It's benefits are similar to the m`lis treatments as well, this one talk a lot about the cellulite the adipose tissue underneath the skin. It helps the appearance of flabby tissue and helps increase the softness of skin as well as the tone. Recommended to have treatments done 3-4 times a week until desired results are achieved. Eating properly and exercising help maintain the inch loss and drinking lots of water to continue to flush the toxins.

Moisturizing and Anti Oxidant Wraps:

There are many other types of Body Wraps, ones that moisturize and ones that give the skin antioxidants. There are even Chocolate ones, mm mm! Ones with Green tea extract, and several from Aveda that seem to be relaxing, detoxifying and re-mineralizing.

Many say that they are all detoxifying, and most are, if you are unsure ask your therapist what the active ingredients are. There are some that have active ingredients that might be harsh for those with sensitive skin. Trust your therapist and if you are ever in doubt play it safe, do a patch test to see your skins reaction to the product.

BATMAN: Dark Night

AWESOME movie! Last night my hubby and I went to the 11:59 showing up in Ogden, and had a BLAST!! It was more violent than I expected but it was a great cast and story. Always love Christan Bale in Gorgio Armani suits, so HOT (!); and lets not forget the sexy batman voice that happens as he puts on the mask... {:)} yummy! Any of you get a chance to see it, the last show the HEATH LEDGER did, he did an absolute job! Standing ovation to him... we would love an encore, unfortunately not gonna happen..bummer. Since his Character didn't die at the end I am curious to see what happens in the future with it... :)

How to SPA

Because I went to school to work in a spa, preferably a high end one, I thought I would post a small summary on "How to Spa" or "Spa Etiquette". Spa hopping is a new thing for me, which I don't do very much of. ( spa hopping: spending time at several different spas in a days or months time; usually done on vacation or as needed) But I recently finished my "spa project" (special thanks to Cindy and Tom for all their hard work and motivating weekly 'homework" nights =)...) and I added a part to the menu so my clients would know what was to be expected when they first arrive. Many have never been to a spa or they try several so it's their first time at my spa and I want them to feel as comfortable as possible.

all this information is an out line and there is no existing business by this name.

How to Spa

Booking
Please call ahead to reserve your preferred appointment time and discuss questions or special needs. Our staff will do everything possible to accommodate your needs, and ensure your experience is memorable. We require credit information to hold your reservation. Please extend us the courtesy of a 24 hour cancellation notice or when requesting to reschedule. Abiding by this policy helps you avoid being charged 50% of the cost of your scheduled services. Missed appointments with no notice are charged at our full service rates. Ages 16+ are welcome.

Arrival
We recommend you arrive 20 to 30 minutes in advance to fill out paper work necessary for our master creators to provide services, and to familiarize yourself with the spa. You will be assigned a locker for your personal belongings (please leave valuables at home). We provide you with spa attire to wear while you enjoy your treatment. We also offer complimentary steam room, sauna, tea, juice and light snacks during your relaxation time, before and after your treatments.

Privacy and Modesty
We understand that Privacy and Modesty are very sensitive issues. Our staff is professionally trained to ensure you are comfortable at all times. Your body is properly coerced at all times during our body and massage treatments. Although not recommended, you may wear bathing suits in our relaxing tub.

Electronic Devices
Our spa is a place for you to relax and enjoy time away from everyday tasks. Please respect our wishes for you and your fellow guests and turn off all electronic devices during your stay. Better yet, consider leaving your electronic devices (including cell phones) at home.

Those of you thinking about going to the Spa anytime soon, check out their brochure or call ahead to see what the etiquette is and if there is first time client information to fill out. The worst thing to happen is to get there only moments before your appointment time only to find out that you have 10-15 min of mandatory paper work ( most, if not all spa's have you fill out a client record form.) and that cuts into your treatment time. So PLEASE please please, save that hassle of feeling rushed and upset and arrive 20-30 min early. Each spa usually has their own waiting room, and some have a relaxation room for you to lounge before you treatment. (Check that out as well!) It is there for you to use, and splurge on time for you... cause we all know there is NEVER enough time for that!

Client record form:

This is Mandatory for you to receive any treatment, they need to know what you have; or medications your taking so the products or treatments don't counter act with what you are using. IE those patients with cancer can not have certain chemical peels, harsh skin treatments, MLD-manual lymphatic drainage (body & facial treatments and use that technique in their massage). Please take the time to be honest, they are really looking out for your best intrest. They are not trying to delve in to your personal life and don'task to be nosy they need to know to help you, so each client is safe and well taken care of. If you have a foot fungus, tell them. You wouldn't want someone else to lie about it and have their foot in the tub before your treatment. ( note all places should take sanitary precautions to keep pedicure tubs safe and clean, and they should notice when something looks suspicious, and offer another treatment option) If you are on Acutane tell them, they don't want to damage the skin or make the problem worse. Acutane causes thinning of the skin, you should not be waxing while currently taking it, you should not have chemical peels or mico's. They will tell you that you have to be off the medication a certain amount of time before any of the described treatments can be done. They really are looking out for your health. Trust them.

All of your treatments will be a much better experience if you take the time to let your professional therapist help you.

SHOES...how many is too many?

Too many is NEVER to many, in my opinion!

So I have posted a link to the shoes websight, cute shoes for under 30$... what a deal. I worked for this company doing "Shoe Parties" and it was a blast! Great benefits..seeing the new product first hand, great boss's, and trying on shoes.. with good food. The ladies we met were wonderful, they all wanted a great time with thier Girlfriends. :)All the parties we did we went to thier house with thier friends ect... Having shoes, girlfriends, food (mostly chocolate) in my home... ultimate girls night! The only thing better would be pedicures along with trying the shoes on and for those who enjoy a great cold beverage. (of course... trying on shoes...not a great idea with wet nail polish but you get the idea. )

While working for the company I have aquired A LOT of shoes, mind you I have purchased a few over the years, and they really weren't my thing before. BUT NOW; thats a whole nother story... i have accumulated about 30-40 pairs in about 6 mo.. thats a ton.. (for me). good thing it was my play $$... cause I'd be a poor poor girl, BUT I'd have a great collection of shoes!

BUTLERS:Cleo's Facial; skincare sponge

Alrighty; first and formost, this post is dedicated to Rynda Brown... thanks for the amazing sponge!

ok, to start this cool little sponge comes from Germany, and it's about 2.5 in round and about .5 in deep, not very big at all. I was given this cute little exfoliating treatment and I have really enjoyed it. When dry it's half the size, hard as a rock and has no odor. :) You can use it day or night, with cleanser or just plain water, using circular motions on the skin you get a great scrub. It's not abrasive, which is a HUGE + and it fits into any small on the go travel case. I would keep it in plastic baggie if your keeping it in your BthRm just to keep it clean from any dirt, chemicals or spray that you don't want on your skin. That would defeat the purpous of the sponge.

Now for the bad news... no one here in America sells it, and they won't send it from Germany to here in the US. LAME...but if you know anyone who lives there and can send you some or bring it over when they visit have them do so if you want to try it. Two to a pkg, for about 16$... it's from the 'BUTLERS' company and called the "Cleo Facial skin care sponge".
Rynda has had her second one for over a year and still going srong, it doesn't collect bacteria (when kept in a clean dry place) and has deteriorated either. (another +)
If I hear that we can get them in the US, I will for sure let you know. For now there are other great sponges that we sell here in America that can do the same thing ( it's just kinda cool to think that this came all the way from Germany and not very many people have it. :) )

Tonight I went to see Jon Schmidt play at the Sandy Amphitheater in Utah, he is quite the piano player, great style, origionality, composed almost every one of his songs. ( if not he has done his own arrangement) His opener was Jon Troast, he's from Wisconnsin; great artist too! He plays the Guitar and his lyrics are well as well as fun. Jane Iredale: Pressed Powder Foundation and Handi Brush

I have been using my foundation for about 6mo and iLOVE the coverage! I can have light coverage or medium coverage... and it really does looks great. It's mineral makeup, and its concealer, base and sunscreen all in one. It's great for those sensitive to talc, they DON'T use it, YEAH. :) The "HANDI" brush gives such a flawless look, and finish that i don't worry about that nasty foundation line! :P The Handi brush blends the pigments, gives a polished coverage so I don't worry about my redness.The products are HIGHLY pigmented and last for quite a while, which iLOVE, and I purchase my foundation less freqent.
